The horizontal axis in a system of multidimensional
coordinates. See axis.

X-Y
In routing switchers, refers to a switching matrix
model that places inputs (sources) on an X axis and outputs
(destinations) on a Y axis. Routing connections are made by
specifying an X value (input number) to be connected to a Y value
(output number). Using this scheme, any available source can be
connected to any available output.
X-Y panel
A routing switcher control panel that uses the X-Y
model for making crosspoint selections.
